Who you rolling with?

I dedicate this blog to all my Jonathan type friends. I want to thank you for all that you do to uplift me and push me closer towards Christ.

With a week like I have had where it has been busy but my mind has still been on a lot of different things. Yesterday was the birthday of someone that I held close to my heart for a short time while he was here on earth but he still taught me a lot about God's love for his children including me. So yesterday I took a personal health day and I just laid around and I prayed and asked God to send me memories in that time I prayed and really reached out to God earnestly and I thanked him for the relationship that I formed with Brandon for his time here on earth.

So while laying around I received a text from a close friend who told me that she was praying for me and that she knew that I was going through a tough time and that she was there if I needed to talk. Okay first I was not expecting it which is how I knew that it was God lead secondly this person will not ever understand how much it really meant to me.

In the Bible there are many stories regarding friendship and most importantly God led friendships. My favorite one is the story of Jonathan and David. David was the youngest son of Jesse, a shepherd boy. Jonathan was the prince of Israel son of Saul. Jonathan looked out for David when David was beyond convinced that Saul (Jonathan's) father was out to get him. Jonathan said to David, "Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the Lord, saying, 'The Lord is witness between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants forever.'" Then David left, and Jonathan went back to the town. 1 Samuel 20:42

Jonathan did not have to be friends with David...truth be told David probably was what we would call an enemy of the state but nevertheless Jonathan was a true friend that promised that they would take care of each others families and they did.

I'm going to say this next sentence as as sweetly as possible...we need to watch who we call friends!!!   Watch who you are allowing to set the atmosphere for your thoughts. Are they building you up? Or tearing you down? I know that it sucks to hear about people you are hanging with but sometimes you need that life check about people that are in your inner circle.

As I read this story again I began to reevaluate my whole blog for the week... I've been struggling in my life as to who really is supposed to be there and God continues to send those people to me one at a time. So tonight I'm at home alone and I'm scrolling through Twitter and one of my friends tweets that she's struggling to get through studying...so The Lord puts it on my heart to send her two scriptures to push her through her study session and then we just had a full blown conversation from there and then she asked me for a prayer request and I told her what I needed and she sent me a Psalm to read!

As a Christian I want my only goal in life to keep my friends close to Christ. I never want to be a stumbling block in their walk. I think in order to get better friends you have to be one yourself. You can't keep praying and asking God to send you better friends when you gossip, lie, steal etc. from the ones that you have. So push yourself to be a greater friend through Christ.

I'm going to ask you again who are you rolling with? Who is in your circle!? Don't you know that God is desiring for us to not only have a special relationship with him meaning that he needs to be our BFF but he also desires for us to create relationships with people here on earth. We all need to be praying and asking God for those Jonathan type relationships! I believe in you! I know that God is working in your life right now! I love you all like crazy!
